iPhone coming to México

According to El Universal, one of the most popular mexican newspapers, Apple is planning to introduce the iPhone to the mexican market with the help of Telcel.

I only hope they bring the rumored 3G version of the smartphone, ’cause my Treo can do 3G.

We’ll see as soon as June.

Farewell, Arthur

The truth, as always, will be far stranger.
-Arthur C. Clarke (16/12/1917 - 19/03/2008)

Yesterday, March 19, at age of 90, Arthur Charles Clarke, inventor, astronomer, writer and dreamer to be followed, leaved us.

He is best known for being the author of 2001: A space odyssey, one of my favourite books (and movies), and for proposing the idea of geostationary satellites.

I write this note to express my respect to his memory.

Yeah, my cats are just like this (video)

Great and funny animated film about feline behavior.

Bregović comes to México… Cigani: Juris!

I’ll have the chance to be in a Goran Bregović concert for the second time: The first time was when he and his Wedding and Funeral Band came to Monterrey for the Universal Forum of Cultures, back in September 2007, and that was the best concert I’ve been ever.

Well, Mr. Bregović and his band will perform in México City on april 19 (he almost make it for my birthday!), and Daya and me will be there. My good friends Daniela, Victor and Nathan will come too.

For those of you who haven’t heard Bregović’s music before, I can tell you he is best known for his soundtracks for movies like Underground, Arizona Dream and Queen Margot, although he has some very good albums not made for films. His music has gypsy instrumentation, and the energy of the Balkans.

Here’s the video of Kalasnjikov; this song is usually the encore on his concerts.

Happy 3rd birthday, Demián

Today is my son’s birthday.

I can only say Dayanira and me were blessed when Demián came, on March 10, 2005. Living with him has teached me a lot of things, of the important ones. I’m very happy to have him, and I have a big smile today because of his birthday.

To celebrate this special event, we had a party yesterday with lots of friends, family, kids, candy, cake and play. More on that later in my family blog.

(anti) Facebook anthem

Almost my feeling. Almost.

iPhone (hearth) Exchange

I’m talking about the press conference given by Apple yesterday, when full iPhone support for Microsoft Exchange OTA sync (a-la Windows Mobile) was announced.

There are some users (myself included) on the consumer side with necessities from the corporate world: Instant push email and instant calendar and address book sync, who surely would be jumping to the iPhone and leaving Windows Mobile devices and Blackberries back.

The only missing piece for the corporate ecosystem on the Mac side, is truly and reliable iCal and Exchange integration. Some dreamers think Apple could bring Exchange support to iCal, just as they did with iPhone, but I think this is less than improbable because:

  1. There’s already an Exchange client on the Mac: Microsoft Entourage.
  2. Apple said they licensed ActiveSync technology from Microsoft, and that makes me think they are paying a royalty to Microsoft on each iPhone sold. I don’t think they want to do the same for every Mac.

So we’ll have to stick to our current solutions and wait (Groupcal: Will you work someday on Leopard? Will you do it right?), and who knows, maybe I’m wrong; some days ago nobody thought the iPhone would replicate Windows Mobile devices’ friendship with Exchange.

Maybe it’s about time for my Treo 750 to prepare for an early retirement. Well, of course I have to wait for the iPhone to come to México in a legitimate way… and with 3G… and with bluetooth network sharing… and… bah.

Blogging exercise, second try

Well, I’m here turning on my blog again. I hope I can keep posting this time. I’ll try to write mainly in english, but I think sometimes I will write in spanish, my native language.
